In the police station, Castillo fiercely confronts his hostile former colleague, Dale Menton. Menton coldly admits that he ratted out Castillo's team during the disastrous Golden Triangle operation to protect political interests in Thailand. Menton also reveals that General Lao Li is in Miami and has brought Castillo's former wife, May Ying, as a hostage. Walking to their car, a melancholic Castillo recounts the events of a disastrous operation in Southeast Asia five years prior. He explains how he tried to stop General Lao Li, resulting in an ambush that killed his team and led him to believe his lover, May Ying, was dead.
