The Testarossa replaced the black Ferrari Daytona Spyder (which was actually a Corvette replica) after Ferrari filed a lawsuit over trademark infringement.
To resolve the dispute, Ferrari donated two genuine 1986 Testarossas to the show—originally painted black, but repainted white to stand out better in night scenes.
???? On-Screen Presence
The car debuted in Season 3, in the episode Stone’s War, gifted to Sonny Crockett by Lt. Castillo.
It featured prominently in high-octane chase scenes, often paired with dramatic music like Crockett’s Theme.
????️ Behind the Scenes
For stunts, the crew used a De Tomaso Pantera fitted with Testarossa body panels. It had a similar wheelbase and was heavily modified for action shots.
The stunt car included a nitrous system, reinforced roof, and a custom braking system for controlled spins.

After the show ended, one of the hero cars was restored and certified by Ferrari Classiche. It went to auction in 2017 but fetched only $151,800 despite expectations of over $1 million.
