Olmos insisted on a minimalist office for Castillo, removing all items except a bottle of aspirin, to reflect the character’s personality. Olmos and Don Johnson had a standoff over whether Castillo’s office door should be open or closed, which ultimately added to the on-screen tension.

Olmos maintained a distant demeanor towards other characters for the first 10 episodes to enhance the tension and authenticity of his role.
